Boys who do ballet are all gay.
Wrong.
They’re wimpy.
Wrong.
They wear tutus. They dance on their toes. They’re all snobby, vain, frail, perverts.
Wrong wrong wrong.
1: My boyfriend is a ballet boy. And he is most definitely not gay. I have guys in my studio. None of them are gay. Sure, there are quite a few male dancer who are actually homosexual, but it’s not an all inclusive fact of the dance world.
2: They’re wimpy? Really, people/ Have you not seen these men lift a ballerina above their heads and hold her there as if she weighs nothing? Yeah, they lift!
Women!
Yes, a lot of ballerinas are pretty thin, but there’s the heavier ones out there too, one’s with partners who are able to let them experience flying. Golden Boy partners with me sometimes, and he can get me over his head and hold me up. I’m not one of the anorexic ballerinas that you’re probably familiar with, either. I shall not divulge my weight, but I’m over 115.
3: They do not wear tutus. The only instance I have heard of this happening was about a guy spoofing Swan Lake.
4: They do not usually dance en pointe, though some teachers have guys learn to so that they can fully understand what their partner has to go through. It’s not a matter of feminizing the men.
5.Ok, there are snobby, vain, (not frail) perverts in the dance world, I’m sure. But definitely not all of them. Golden Boy in no way relates to any of those accusations thrust upon the male dancers of this world. I know ballet boys who are just all around awesome people.
The stereotypes are true in some instances, but don’t you dare accuse a man of being gay just because he does ballet.
Truthfully, I think you guys are just jealous of them. They have the good sense to surround themselves with beautiful women in skin-tight, often revealing, leotards and tights. It’s a pretty sweet deal they’ve got going.
So stop dissing on ballet boys. You try lifting a girl in a tutu above your head and holding her there while making her look elegant and beautiful. These men are amazing. It’s time to open your eyes and see that.
