Confessions of a Ninja Ballerina: Marriage

It has been 3 1/2 months since Golden Boy and I tied the knot.

It has been truly wonderful.

We have our own place, which we love. A cute little cabin, very small and very adorable. I’m having a grand time decorating on a budget. Value Village. Nobody should be above it. I found the most beautiful framed chalkboard there.

I try really hard to be a good wife and cook our meals most days. On days when I just really don’t feel like it, Golden Boy steps right in and gladly cooks dinner for me, which I find very sweet.

Of course there are the hard parts. But they aren’t bad. Just difficult. Little fights happen just like they did while we were dating. We get past them.

We go on a nice date night once a month. April’s happens to be tonight. He’s taking me out to dinner. I’m very excited 🙂

We have impromptu ‘date nights’ also, which usually consist of popcorn and South Park paired with a nice red wine. It works for us.

So, that’s what we’ve been up to. If you have any spectacular advice for newlyweds, we would love to hear it. Or if you newlyweds out there want to share your little stories, I would love to read them!

Also, would y’all be interested if I posted my favorite recipes so far? I have some good ones….

Bohemian Goddess and I do a Cafe Crawl

Recently the glorious Bohemian Goddess and I stormed through Anchorage, Alaska. While there we decided to do a café crawl.

We hit four cafes and thought we would give y’all a review.

Our first stop was Kaladi Brothers off 7th Avenue. We ordered the 4 cheese quiche and a hazelnut mocha to share.

Ratings:

Quiche: Bohemian Goddess-7        Wild Thing – 7

Mocha: BG- 9     WT- 9

Customer Service: BG-4.5       WT-5

Atmosphere: BG-7.5         WT- 8

We really liked it. There was awesome indie music, weird artwork, lots of walls separating sections, which we liked. Very modern, very relaxed.

Second stop was Steam Dot. We ordered an Americano.

Ratings:

Americano: BG- 8.5       WT- 8.5

Customer Service:  BG- 6.5     WT-8

Atmosphere:  BG – 8.5     WT-7

The music was good there too, maybe a little loud, but very good. There was a full bar there, which would’ve been cool if we were 21. Also, there was a Chris Evans look-alike. That was pleasant.

Next was Midnight Sun Café. I ordered the Wedding Cake Latte which was Coconut, vanilla, and Irish Cream. Bohemian Goddess order a Strawberry Guava Watermelon Red Bull Italian soda.

Ratings:

Latte:  WT- 6.5

Italian Soda:  BG- 6.5

Atmosphere: BG- 7.5    WT-7.5

The place was cute, kinda hippie, relaxing. Plus they had Taco comics. Adorable. It was colorful without being overwhelming and, again, good music.

Monday morning before we left town we stopped in Busy Beans. They serve Kaladi Brothers coffee. So we knew the coffee would be good. We both ordered a quad-shot mocha. I got a ham, cheddar, spinach, and pesto Panini. BG got a turkey, pepper jack, tomato, mayo, and grey poupon Panini.

Ratings:

Coffee: BG- 9       WT-9

Food:  BG-10!     WT-10!    (Soooooo yummy!)

Atmosphere: BG- 8   WT-8.5

Customer Service: BG-8      WT-8

It was a very open place. Had a kids section and everything. Cute artwork everywhere. The sandwiches took a while but were well worth the wait! Good music, just like everywhere else. Nothing too well-known, which we really enjoyed.

All in all, everything was way better than Starbucks and I don’t know why anyone would choose Starbucks over Kaladi Brothers. Seriously people. Drink local.

What’s your favorite café or coffee place? Please let us know!

Rockfish

I have discovered, due to my diet, that rockfish is definitely worth eating.

That is some good stuff.

Just lightly fry it, maybe with some garlic salt, eat it with brown rice and a little bit of lemon juice, maybe some broccoli on the side.

Yum.

The weird thing is, it was the cheapest fish at Wal-Mart.

Yes, I bought fish from Wal-Mart. I know, I took my life into my own hands.

Confessions of a Ninja Ballerina: Delicious Diet

My title is funny because I put two words together that don’t normally go together.

“Delicious Diet”

*Americans snickering in the background*

For real though. Golden Boy and I are trying dieting. He’s trying to bulk up in the right ways, I’m trying to make sure I stay slim over break, we thought we’d do this thing together.

He found some no-fun super strict diet.

No coffee. (All 12 of my readers just fainted)

No sugar outside of fruit. (Duh)

No bread or potato. (Even though potatoes are a perfectly wonderful way to get your daily dose of potassium. Along with your daily dose of butter, oil, and salt. Because how else do you eat potatoes??)

So basically where we’re at right now is eggs and fruit for breakfast, olives and cheese for lunch, and chicken (or fish but fish is flippin expensive. Ha. I made a pun.) and rice for dinner.

Personally, I’m still stuck on no coffee.

I’m so tired.

Anyways, last night I made this yummy chicken wrap and I thought I’d share the recipe with you guys. It’s all under 300 calories too!

For 1 chicken breast:

Chop up your chicken and get that started in a skillet. Add to the skillet:

1 Tablespoon lemon juice

1 1/2 teaspoon thyme

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

While that’s cooking, grab a whole wheat tortilla and spread on 1 triangle of Laughing Cow garlic and herb cheese. Pile on your chicken, add some lettuce and olives and enjoy!

Super tasty. I’m also trying marinading the chicken in all the spices and the lemon juice and I’ll cook that up tonight. I’ll let all you know if it’s any better that way.

I shall keep you updated on any more delicious diet recipes!

Just Something to Brighten up Your Day…

Because who in their right mind doesn’t love odd animals?

Nobody.

pygmyloris

This is a pygmy loris. He is adorable and needs all the love and attention.

Of course, no adorable animals blog post would be complete with the presence of a baby panda.

This is a Southern Pudu and it looks like it has a bow on its head. Also, I’ve never seen an animal look quite so angry and cute at the same time.

These baby stingrays look like they could mess you up…

These are the coolest marking I have ever seen on an animal. This is a tapir.

And to wrap things up we have this beauty:

A baby aardvark!!!!!

He just needs love….

And hair…

Well folks I hope your day is a little bit better now!

Common Courtesy is not so Common Anymore

In this bustling, hectic word people forget or ignore things as simple as being polite and respectful to the rest of the souls doing the same thing as you- waking up, earning money, going to bed.

It is sad that when someone says ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ how much it makes my day.

Why have we neglected such simple yet positive words?

I know that it’s hard. You’re in a rush, you’re late, you’re sleepy, you’ve had a bad day.

But haven’t you ever, just once, thought “that person was kinda rude.” ?

You don’t want to be that person.

Especially when someone is serving you, such as in the food industry or even retail, where the employees are all there to make your experience better, you want to be respectful. I try to always remember to be polite and respectful because their entire job is serving people. Making people things, helping people find the right items, customer service.

Now, granted, not everyone in customer service has fantastic customer service skills. It’s something a lot of people never really perfect. But smiling, being patient, and saying thank you or ‘have a great day’ goes so very far.

It’s refreshing to the person you’re interacting with, who in turn, will most likely be friendlier and more polite to you as well.

Our generation loves conflict. We love aggression and moving quickly. But we don’t have to be jerks to those trying to help us. We don’t have to be negative to complete strangers just because we’re having a crappy day. It doesn’t have to work like that.

So next time your barista, waiter, clerk, shop attendant, or whoever smiles and tells you to have a good day, smile back. Say ‘you too.’ You have no idea how much it actually brightens up their day.

They may be having the worst work day of the year. You don’t want to contribute.

Have a fantastic day everyone 😉

The Return of the Hoopla-Chiatto

It’s summer yet again which means work. As some people may recall, I work in a seasonal hotel’s gift shop and espresso bar. All the awesome people should remember the creation of the Hoopla-Chiatto.

In case you’re wondering what a Hoopla-Chiatto is, it is a triple-shot latte with almond, hazelnut, vanilla, caramel, and Irish cream syrup in it. It’s delicious and the sugar alone will keep you going for hours.

Now, sadly, the Hoopla-Chiatto will not actually be making a triumphant re-entry into the world of tourism.  We have switched to Starbucks ( 😡 ) and I no longer have either almond or Irish Cream syrup to use.

I know, this news is devastating. But do not fret! There is hope to come for I am determined to create something almost as splendid. It might even be a frappucino. There are endless possibilities.

Chin up, dear readers. One day the Hoopla-Chiatto will enter back into society as a socially acceptable drink . However, the world just isn’t ready for it yet.

In the mean time I’ll making macchiato’s (which are no different than cappuccinos) and drinking sludge ( espresso + coffee)

Have a fantastic day everyone!

I Tell You the Truth

Jesus really liked that phrase. I mean it’s fair, He was telling the truth. I don’t quite know what to make of his persistent use of “I tell you the truth” so I’m just going to leave it at that.

Today we read John 3:1-21.

PAUSE

Break out your Bible.

Read it.

It’s worth it.

The first thing about this passage is Nicodemus. He didn’t go to Jesus to question Him. He went to Him to state that he believed that Jesus was God. To support Him (Ah, that must feel nice. 😛 I kid, I kid.)

Jesus still used this as an opportunity to teach. He told Nicodemus that the only way to see or enter the Kingdom of God was to be born again.

Now, this was a pretty radical idea to Nicodemus and everyone else. They didn’t understand the phrase, I don’t think. Jesus explained the difference between the Flesh and the Spirit quite well.

He put a lot of emphasis on being born again and how it is the ONLY way to enter Heaven. Just take a moment and ask yourself if you have been born again.

In the second part of the passage, Jesus references the Old Testament (If it was relevant to Him and His teaching, it’s relevant to us.) He talked about Moses lifting up the snake in the desert, and how the Son of Man must also be lifted up.

We need to keep our focus on Jesus. As Christians, we need to lift Jesus up for others to see Him. Are we doing that in todays society? Not the vast majority of us. It’s a Sunday thing. We go, we sing, we pray, then we forget about it on Monday. That’s not how it should be. We are a broken church. The only way to be the church Jesus intended us to be is to lift Him up above petty politics and what humans want.

God did not send Jesus to judge the world, but to save it.

NO, this is not a verse that can be used to say we should not judge others. Another word for judge as used in this verse is ‘condemn’. So calm down there. As I’ve mentioned before, the Bible still tells us to judge our fellow Christian and warn against sin.

The last bit of the passage talks about Judgment from God, righteous judgment, and how He has already judged those who choose to follow darkness.

I think it’s powerful how Jesus said that God sent Light into the world (Jesus) but men loved the darkness (sin) too much to go to the light.

You know how, as a kid, almost everyone is afraid of the dark. But then we grow up and we realize that it’s silly and childish and that the dark is nothing to fear. I think we’re wrong. Darkness is terrifying, on a spiritual level. It’s what separates us from God. Why aren’t we as afraid of THAT darkness as we were afraid of the actual darkness as a five-year-old? We need to claim child-like faith again. We should still be afraid of the dark.

In conclusion, you should read 1 John 1:6.

One thing I want to say about me blogging mostly to believers; It’s very important to share the Word with non-believers, to try to get them to come to faith in Jesus. But if we have huge problems in our theology, how can we do that efficiently? If we are not examples of Christ, not exclusively His loving nature but all aspects of Him, how can we paint an accurate picture of what the church is? That is why I blog to a believing audience for the most part. I’m trying to share how I think we all need to act more like Christ before we tell others how they ought to. Look at yourself first. Do you look like Christ? I don’t as much as I would like to, but that’s why I’m doing this Bible study. I’m figuring out what Jesus looked like.

Fishers of Men and Warning Against Sin

Today we studied Matthew 4: 18-22

In summary, it’s Jesus calling on His first disciples, Simon Peter and his brother Andrew.

These two dudes were minding their own business, fishing with their dad, and Jesus comes along the shore and is like, “Hey guys, want to be fishers of men? Come with me. It’s gonna be epic.”

(I enjoy paraphrasing Jesus’ words. Don’t worry. I’m still respectful.)

Then they just got up and left. Their dad must’ve been so confused.

There must have been something about Jesus that made people want to stick with Him. Think about it. If you just walked to someone already doing something and said, “Hey, you should come follow me.” They would be so weirded out. And they wouldn’t move.

Jesus had to have had this feeling about Him that people knew they could trust, or at least the right people.

Which brings up another question. Why did Jesus need disciples? He could’ve done everything Himself.

Well, Jesus was human. Have you ever gone through a period of your life where you really don’t have any friends? Isn’t it lonely and depressing? Jesus felt sadness and loneliness too. I think part of the reason he had the disciples around Him was for companionship.

However, the biggest reason was probably so that they could continue His work after he died. They were His legacy. They were taught by Him personally so they could carry on after Jesus was gone.

We decided to finish up chapter 4 of Matthew which is about Jesus going through towns and healing people.

What I like about this is that Jesus didn’t keep the power He had to Himself. He helped those that came to Him. I think that’s important. Jesus went to the towns, but he specifically helped and healed those who went to Him. We have to seek His help if we want to get it. You can’t just sit back and wait for God to do all the work.

Also, he raised awareness for Himself and others by doing this. He started building a reputation for Himself.

Which brings up the last portion of Scripture I want to talk about. This isn’t part of my Bible study, but I came across it and it fit my situation perfectly.

Hebrews 3:12-13 AMP
12 [Therefore beware] brethren, take care, lest there be in any one of you a wicked, unbelieving heart [which refuses to cleave to, trust in, and rely on Him], leading you to turn away and desert or stand aloof from the living God.
13 But instead warn (admonish, urge, and encourage) one another every day, as long as it is called Today, that none of you may be hardened [into settled rebellion] by the deceitfulness of sin [by the fraudulence, the stratagem, the trickery which the delusive glamour of his sin may play on him].

And reading this makes me confused as to how fellow Christians can tell me I’m the wrong by speaking out against sin. Where is your Biblical proof that I am in the wrong? Because here is my Biblical proof that I am doing something right.
